Do you have idiocy on the menu tonight?

Rate this Entry
I've been doing some phone work at the old joint lately. Here are some prime questions I've been asked in the past two days or so:

1) How do I enter you into my GPS?

2) (same person) Do you have valet parking (it's Manhattan, no one has valet parking)?

3) If I come on Saturday at 8:00 without a reservation how long will the wait be? (I can actually predict the future, but instead chose to do this glamorous job with my special gift)

4) Can I give you my credit card number to buy my two friends a dessert?

5) Hi can you get me a copy of a check that I need for my expenses? We were there on October 24th. I think. I'm not sure (we don't use a POS system)

6) (A guy requesting a table for four at 730 on Friday night, and it WAS Friday night) I don't understand why restaurants say no and turn people away? Don't you want the business

and the classic:
them: "I'd like a reservation on Saturday for 3 people"

me: "cool. (yes, I do say that) I have 6:00, 6:30 10:30 and 11:00"

them" "nothing at 8:30?"

me: "I have 6:00, 6:30 10:30 and 11:00"

them: "how about 7:00?"

me: "I have 6:00, 6:30 10:30 and 11:00"
and then guess where this goes...yup:

"If I come on Saturday at 8:00 without a reservation how long will the wait be?"

sigh. it will probably be a week.

This is why the majority of hostesses are idiots. Intelligent people rip out their hair and quit/demand a promotion before dealing with this shit every night.

I love hostessing, but that's probably because get a wierd satisfaction from telling them no.

its just as bad when a customer asks"whats the soup" you tell them all the ones available them they ask for the only one you don"t have.
